Artwork Capture
The quality of your final print starts with the capture. At The Painted Pixel, we know that for professional artists, a great digital capture is the foundation of any exceptional reproduction. Capturing every detail, color nuance, and texture with precision and care is essential—because no matter how skilled the printer, without an accurate capture, the final print can’t fully do your artwork justice.
We don’t rely on automated processes or outsource your work to unfamiliar hands. Instead, our team of artists works side by side with your original, ensuring every detail is captured with precision.
We have two options for Artwork Capture: Digital Capture & Print Capture
Not sure where to start? The best capture service for you depends on your intended use—whether that’s digital display or professional print reproductions.
We offer Digital Capture for high resolution files perfect for online use or printing elsewhere, and Print Capture, our premier service with expert color proofing and printed proofs to ensure your reproductions look as close to the original as possible.
Print Capture
$80 minimum per piece · $0.11 per square inch
Our premium capture service for artists who want prints that look as close to the original artwork as possible. Includes physical color proofing, expert adjustments, and a printed proof on your chosen paper. Perfect for professional reproductions, gallery prints, and limited editions.
Includes:
A high resolution, print ready TIF file (300dpi at size of original)
A web ready JPG file ( 1920px on long edge, 72dpi)
Includes multiple rounds of color proofing to deliver a carefully crafted, reduced size, printed proof for your review in studio.
Our printmakers work to get your color dialed in within the best capabilities of our printers- if you would like further editing beyond their work, additional edits will be charged at $100/Hr.
✦ Note: Even with proofing, printed reproductions will not match the original exactly, but we’ll get them as close as our printers can make them.
✦ Note: Our print proofing is tailored to the equipment, papers, and settings we use. These results do not translate to other printers or print shops.
Digital Capture

Add On Services
Metallic Capture – Add $20 per piece
Metallics require a specialized multi-capture process to preserve reflective qualities. Without this add-on, metallic areas may appear dull or brown.
File Cleaning – $150/Hr. (prorated)
Extensive digital cleanup to remove hairs, fuzz, fibers, and other surface distractions from your artwork image.
Background Removal – Starts at $30 per piece
We’ll isolate your subject and create a solid white background—ideal for clean, floating presentations.
Extensive cleanup (like shadows on pressed flowers) may require additional editing billed at $100/hr (prorated).
Extra Resolution – Additional $0.05 per square inch
Perfect for large-format printing, commercial projects, or super enlargements of smaller artworks. This option involves additional imaging and edits to create a higher-resolution file with enhanced detail and clarity.
Gallery Display Mockups – $25 per image, $10 per additional display style
Professional mockups of your artwork for websites and social media. Choose your existing frame, neutral mockup frame, or floating print display.

What is Color Proofing?
Color proofing is a hands-on process where we print your captured file, compare it side-by-side with the original artwork, and note any color or tonal changes needed. Then we edit the file in Photoshop and repeat the cycle—printing, comparing, and adjusting—until we get a print result as close as possible to your original.
It’s a detailed process that takes significant time and care, and while it’s not always possible to create an exact match, our printmakers are skilled at interpreting your work to create the strongest possible reproduction within the capabilities of our printers.
Color proofing is specific to the paper, printers, and settings used in our studio. Because every printer and paper behaves differently, the results you see in a proof made with our equipment may not translate exactly if printed elsewhere. This is why we recommend proofing on the exact paper you plan to use for your final prints.
Color proofing is at the heart of what we do, and it’s our most sought after service. Artists trust us to recreate their work because we are artists too. We understand how important it is to honor the original piece by carefully interpreting it for print. Our hands-on approach and attention to detail make all the difference.
What happens if I choose Digital Capture over Print Capture?
Will the colors still match my original?
If you choose a Digital Capture, we’ll still produce a high-resolution, archival fine art print using our professional papers and inks — and we’ll make sure it’s as sharp and clear as possible from your file.
However, without a proofing process, the colors may not match your original artwork or what you see on your screen. This is due to variations in monitor calibration, file prep, and how colors translate from screen to different printers and papers.
If your goal is to produce prints that truly reflect your original, even down the line, we highly recommend our print capture for the best print results.
My piece has neon and or metallics. Can you replicate that?
Some colors, like neons and metallics, can’t be perfectly recreated in print. Neon pigments are often brighter than inkjet inks can achieve, and metallic paints reflect light in ways that paper and ink can’t mimic. In those cases, we focus on capturing the overall feel and balance of the piece. For artworks with metallic features, we offer a multi-step capture process designed to showcase the metallic elements as faithfully as possible. Many artists also choose to hand-embellish their prints aft with metallic inks or gold leaf to bring back the original’s reflective qualities.

Gallery Display Mockups
You can now add digital mockups to your artwork capture.
We create a clean, realistic display image of your work on a neutral background. Framed pieces can be shown with their existing frame, unframed work can be placed in a neutral display frame, and floating print-style mockups are also available.
Available as an add-on when your artwork is in the studio for capture.
$25 per image (includes one display style of your choice: existing frame, neutral digital mockup frame, or floating print)
$10 for each additional display style of the same image
Example: If you want one mockup as framed and one as a floating print: $25 + $10 = $35.
